About Melissa

Hello. My name is Melissa Auvine and I am the owner/therapist at Gypsy Leaf Counseling Services, LLC. I am originally from Massachusetts but have been in the Sierra Vista area since 2015. I love the warm temperatures, beautiful sunsets, and the stunning landscapes. I wouldn’t trade them for anything.

I currently hold a Master’s degree in Counseling with an emphasis in school counseling. I earned my bachelor’s degree in 2013 from Westfield State University and my master’s degree in 2015 from the University of Arizona. I hold a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) certification and am a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC). Throughout my career I have worked in a variety of settings with clients of all ages and backgrounds. I have worked as a special education paraprofessional, teacher in an Autism program, registered behavioral health technician, pre-school teacher, and most recently, as a school counselor. I enjoy helping ALL people, from all walks of life, on their path towards recovery and wellness. With that said, I think it is also important to note that I am not a miracle worker. I can only help those who are willing to help themselves and I need my clients to be working just as hard as I am. I know together, we can make the changes that will lead to wellness.

My approach to counseling is very similar to my approach to life; find the good and do more of it. I consider myself eclectic in orientation and implement strategies and interventions from all branches of psychology. I tend to draw heavily on Cognitive Behavioral and Strengths Based strategies, however. I am also an EMDR trained therapist. It is important to me that clients feel open and comfortable during sessions, and I work hard to create an environment where people can open up and be themselves. Confidentiality is one of my top most priorities. It is also important to me that clients feel safe so we never talk about subjects that you are not ready to talk about. Sessions are generally guided by the client, with insight and intervention from me along the way, so that your therapeutic needs are met. After all, no one knows you better than YOU! I believe that everyone can be happy, successful, and healthy with the right kind of help, from the right kind of person. I hope I’m your person!

Gypsy Leaf Counseling has been a work in progress for a number of years. While in middle school, I decided that I wanted to be a counselor and from that point forward I have been chasing this dream. Years of schooling, training, and experience have led me to this point. I am excited to be able to help this community of Sierra Vista, that I am so connected to.

Outside of Gypsy Leaf, I have an enormously fulfilling life. I have a wonderfully supportive family who have always encouraged me to follow my dreams. I wouldn’t be here without their insight, encouragement, and love. In my down time, I love to hike, go camping, kayak, write, sing, play guitar, and spend time with my husband and puppies. I also enjoy photography. I travel as frequently as I can because I love meeting new people and exploring new places. I am an incurable optimist who believes in finding the good in all people, places, and situations. I look forward to connecting with you!
